Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, Reborn

Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer – Open-Air Purity, Perfected

There are restored cars, and then there are cars reimagined with genuine intent. The Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer belongs firmly in the latter category — a meticulous reinterpretation of the air-cooled 911, created for owners who value craftsmanship, character and the simple pleasure of driving.

Limited to just 75 commissions, each example begins with an owner-supplied Type 964 before undergoing a comprehensive restoration and engineering programme by Singer Vehicle Design. The aim is not to modernise the car beyond recognition, but to refine and elevate the original concept while preserving everything that made the classic 911 so engaging in the first place.

Inspired by a Rare 911 Variant

Singer’s latest Cabriolet takes its inspiration from the wide-bodied, naturally aspirated Carrera models of the 1980s — rare cars that combined the muscular stance of the Turbo with the purity of an atmospheric flat-six.

That influence is clear in the car’s proportions. Lightweight carbon fibre bodywork gives the Cabriolet its broad shoulders and purposeful presence, while a newly developed folding roof mechanism reduces weight and maintains a clean, elegant profile whether raised or lowered.

It is unmistakably a classic 911, but one sharpened in both detail and execution.

A Flat-Six, Re-engineered

At the heart of the car sits a newly developed 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six producing around 420 bhp and revving beyond 8,000 rpm. Based on the original Type 964 architecture but extensively reworked, the engine features four-valve cylinder heads, variable valve timing and a sophisticated combination of air-cooled cylinders with water-cooled heads.

Developed with engineering support from Cosworth, the unit delivers stronger performance throughout the rev range while retaining the immediacy, sound and character that define the air-cooled 911 experience.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox — a deliberate choice that reinforces the car’s analogue, driver-focused nature.

Classic Character, Modern Capability

While the philosophy remains traditional, the engineering beneath the surface is thoroughly contemporary. The original 964 monocoque is stripped back, assessed and reinforced to increase torsional rigidity, providing a stronger foundation for improved handling, braking and refinement.

Electronically adjustable dampers allow the car’s behaviour to be tailored to different driving conditions, while modern ABS, traction control and stability systems — developed in partnership with Bosch — offer reassurance without diluting driver involvement. Optional carbon-ceramic brakes provide substantial stopping performance for more enthusiastic use.

Five selectable drive modes enable the level of electronic assistance to be adjusted according to road conditions and driver preference.

Crafted Around the Owner

As with every Singer commission, personalisation sits at the centre of the process. Owners work closely with the company to define every aspect of their car, from exterior colour and body configuration to interior materials and finishing details.

Inside, the familiar 911 layout is retained but elevated through hand-built instruments, traditional leather craftsmanship and carefully integrated modern features such as navigation and phone connectivity. Whether specified for long-distance touring or more focused driving, each car reflects the priorities of its owner — and no two examples will be identical.

Heritage Meets Modern Engineering

Singer’s approach combines a deep respect for Porsche’s air-cooled heritage with advanced materials and engineering. Extensive testing at leading proving grounds across Europe ensures that each restoration delivers the performance and reliability expected of a modern performance car.

Yet the fundamentals remain reassuringly simple: lightweight construction, rear-wheel drive, a naturally aspirated engine and a manual gearbox. In an increasingly digital automotive landscape, that combination feels refreshingly authentic.
